Watercolors are my favorite choice for capturing an image quickly with spontaneity and freshness.
I take my watercolors with me whether I am camping or traveling to places like Mexico, Hawaii, or Europe.
They are compact, dry quickly, and let me work indoors and outdoors.
I prefer to keep my work loose, to paint the impression of what I see.
To avoid being too rigid, I often wet my blank paper before applying paint, then make broad strokes of color on the wet surface.
The colors blur and merge and create a backdrop for more detailed applications.
